Then, during my Master’s course (I do not remember it too much); I made lots of effort to understand the classes because most of the classes were totally different with my undergraduate field. However, I still remember well that a great professor said it was more important to have an image first than to understand its detail. I always feel this attitude is important not only in interdisciplinary research such as BASE but other academics and researches. One of the featured of BASE education for the graduate student is to have three presentations about one’s research which were research theme, mid-term and final presentations. It was hassle during the graduate studies, but thanks to the BASE education training because nowadays many BASE students are good in presenting their research in front of the audiences. When students started to work, they are rarely to have meetings which consisting experts and specialists such as in academic conferences. Thus, by experiencing lectures and researches in different fields will help to deal with unfamiliar works with little hesitation.

9 years as both students and assistant professor in BASE was a precious experience for me. In Yamada laboratory, we are working on the gust monitoring system using ultrasound. Our goal is to apply this technology to transportation systems such as railways and airports which demand the advanced safety. The development of equipment that associated with localized weather disturbances need to gather various expertises such as acoustic instrumentation and image processing other than electronic circuit technology. Since it was a new research theme, there were few previous studies. Thus I make various devices from transmit-receive circuit for ultrasonic waves to analysis of vortex wind field. Through my research, I developed not only manufacturing but an ability to do things done in a comprehensive way. I worked together with more than 10 undergraduate and graduate students for 9 years. For me as a foreigner it was a valuable opportunity to know more about myself because I can learn various things from people that have different backgrounds, age and gender. With the acquisition of knowledge and skills, it becomes the most study for me to have sincere scientific attitude as researchers and educators. These will become one of a great asset for me in the future.

This is my last year as an assistant professor and I will leave BASE as an alumni. I would like to thank you to all professors. And I hope to pursue my next carrier with pride as one of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology’s graduate.
